There have been meals in my life that have caused me to scrunch my brow and question my menu choice. These kind of meals could and have ruined my entire day. However, just the opposite happens when a glorious plate (or bowl) of perfection is placed in front of me for my eating pleasure. The crispy braised pork belly and fried egg dish from Skinner’s Loft & Cove in Jersey City had me smiling ear to ear and reminiscing about each bite just moments after the last.

These three perfectly crisp pieces of braised pork belly were served on parmesan polenta with two fried eggs blanketing the entire dish. The saltiness of the pork belly was well balanced with the parmesan polenta, and of course adding fried eggs always enhances a dish. Not only was the food phenomenal, but the atmosphere was ideal. Skinner’s Loft & Cove has a beautiful rooftop with a only a handful of tables, making for a very intimate and fun brunch location. Additionally, there was a small assortment of homemade muffins and treats on the table that added such an elegant touch.

If you go to Jersey City without stopping for the Crispy Braised Pork Belly…well, that’s a decision you will have to live with.
