The Old (yet delicious) Monk

The Old Monk has been on my list since I moved to Dallas last year. I finally went and was pleasantly surprised. First things first, they have great Bloody Mary’s for a great price ($3 on weekends). I was going back and forth between the breakfast tacos, the Fish and Chips and the Chipotle-Avocado Chicken Sandwich. Breakfast tacos lost – you will see why as I describe the other two dishes.

Chipotle-Avocado Chicken Sandwich: Grilled chicken breast with melted Monterey Jack, spicy chipotle salsita and sliced avocado, with lettuce, tomato, red onion and mayo. YUM!

Fish and Chips: “Best in Town” – D Magazine Atlantic Cod in a Smithwicks batter served pub style with steak cut fries, malt vinegar and homemade tartar sauce.

Let’s start with the chicken sandwich, I can only describe it as the fiesta in you mouth that gets more fun with each bite. I may even argue that this is better as a leftover (aka cold). I was the envy at the lunch table the next day. The fish and Chips caught my attention because of the “Best in Town” nod from D Magazine. They were good, yes, although I would have to be fair and say it was a tie with the Fish and Chips at The Libertine. Both had fantastic homemade tartar sauce.

I would highly recommend The Old Monk. There is a nice outdoor area and the bar inside was very much like a pub, which is one of the best atmosphere if you ask me!

Go on and seize the meal.
